Wearing a dress during the cold months can be a real challenge. Luckily, I’ve found some of the very best cozy dresses to wear when all of your pants are in the laundry.
Speaking from past experience, once the temperature dips significantly below 60 degrees, my legs are covered. I will literally just resign myself to wearing pants and leggings because the mere thought of bare legs is almost unbearable. Dramatic, but it’s true. Sometimes I’ll even wear pants under my pants (not advocating for the “layered denim” trend) to keep me toasty. That’s how strongly I feel about warm legs.
Once in a while, though, I decide to be brave and grab a dress and (usually always) tights to spice things up a bit. This fall and winter, I’m trying to challenge myself to do this more often.
Here’s a round-up of some dresses that I think would be great options for those like me who don’t handle cold weather very well.
For when you’re seeking warmth:
This chunky knit dress is a great pop of color, yet it looks beyond comfortable and easy to wear. Throw it on with a pair of tights and boots to carry the look into winter.
Super casual, sporty, and comfortable. Dress it down with some neon leggings and white sneaks, or dress it up with some black tights and booties. Effortlessly cool.
Technically cheating with this one, but I’m totally digging this cozy knit set from Free People. Color-blocking? Yes! Maxi skirt? Yes! I mean, this whole ensemble looks so toasty and perfect.
For when you’re feeling reptilian:
Snakeskin has been huge this season, and this form-fitting dress from Zara is a great one to add to your collection. I love the darker color of the print, and the mock neck. This would also be a wonderful dress for layering.
For when you’re in the mood for velvet:
I’m totally obsessed with this velvet wrap number from &other stories. The beautiful green hue and floral print give the dress a certain freshness that you don’t always get from velvet pieces.
For when it’s Friday night & below 40:
A dress like this is the opposite of comfort on its own, but I absolutely love the way they styled this for cold weather. Layer a fun, slinky dress over a warm turtleneck and leggings, and you’re good to go. This look feels perfectly laid back, yet festive.
For when you want something simple:
A dress like this is so easy to wear, and can be styled so many different ways. If you want to put in that extra effort to elevate a simple dress, try adding a western inspired waist belt or a pair of snakeskin boots.
Super simple, super sleek. I absolutely love the relaxed silhouette of this item and that it’s so versatile. Though I love the all black styling, you could even try adding some color with a bold shoe or statement coat.
I hope you guys found some cold-weather inspiration from this post! I personally can’t wait to get my hands on a few sweater dresses (or maybe that set from Free People) this winter.
